The Special Circumstances of Military Divorce

A military divorce is a divorce in which one or both of the partners is in the military, whether active, in the reserves or retired. Military couples have to undergo the same procedures civilians go through when filing for a divorce, plus additional steps involving military retirement, whether or not the client is deployable, and geographical separation. For example, a military divorce may be complicated by an active-duty assignment in a remote area or a permanent station overseas.

At the law offices of Urech, Livaudais & Wade, PC, we’re well acquainted with the differences between the civilian divorce process and military divorce. As former military officers, we provide our military divorce clients a deep understanding of the nuances involved, honed over years of handling successful cases.

Our military family law practice includes:

  • Divorce
  • Visitation issues
  • Child custody
  • Transfer of a partner
  • Division of retirement and military pay
  • Modification of divorce decrees
  • Adoptions
